What is a heat pump? · heating and cooling in one
Think of it as a furnace and an air conditioner in one box. In winter it pulls warmth out of the outside air (yes, even when it's 30 degrees out) and brings it inside. In summer it runs the other direction and pushes heat out of the house. Because it moves heat instead of burning gas to make it, your bill goes down. The newer cold-climate models handle Puget Sound winters without a problem. This is the system your utility is paying you up to $4,400 to switch to.
What's the $4,400 rebate, actually? · how it works
Your utility pays up to $4,400 when a heat pump replaces your old gas, oil, propane or electric heat. How much you get depends on what you have now and what we install. We file the rebate for you and take it off your price. You never chase a check.
Do I qualify? · eligibility in 30 seconds
Your utility pays this rebate, not us and not the state, and it is not income based. The full $4,400 is for replacing a gas furnace with an all-electric heat pump. If you'd rather keep the furnace as backup, there is still a rebate for a heat pump installed alongside it, from $1,500. You need to be a residential utility customer in our service area and own the home (or have your landlord's OK). We confirm which programs you qualify for at the free visit and take it off the quote up front.
Do I keep my furnace? · your call
Either way works. A heat pump can replace your gas furnace completely (that is the $4,400 option), or go in alongside it and do most of the heating with the furnace as backup on the coldest days (rebate from $1,500). Both give you cooling in summer. The visit is where we look at your house and price both, so you can pick.
Can you give me a price over the phone? · honestly, no
Not a real one, and we won't pretend otherwise. The number depends on your ductwork, your electrical panel and the size of the house, and nobody can see those over the phone. That's why the written quote needs the visit. It's free, takes about an hour, and you keep the quote either way.
What happens at the visit? · about an hour
About an hour. We look at your current furnace, the ductwork and the electrical panel, measure the rooms, and go over options at the table. You don't need to walk around with us or clear anything out; we just need to get to the furnace and the panel. You get a written quote before we leave, with the rebate already taken off.
Can I finance it? · from $80 a month
Yes, and most homeowners do. Two options, both on approved credit: a 10-year plan at 9.99% APR, which starts around $80 a month after the rebate, or 0% APR for 12 months with equal payments. Your quote shows both numbers so you can pick.
What if I decide not to install? · zero pressure, ever
